Dolphin of the Month - April

Clare was awarded Dolphin of the Month for her consistent and dedicated training performance.  Clare is keen to improve her swim times and recently joined with other Dolphins to participate in the Endurance 1000 swim program.  As part of this she completed an 800m freestyle swim on a recent Sunday morning.

NSW Long Course Championships

Great results were achieved by the Dolphins at NSW Masters LC championships on 27th April.  We had 3 competitors - Dee, Margie and Andrew Gilchrist (now living in Sydney but still a member of Dolphins).

Andrew won gold in 50m & 100m freestyle and 50m and 100m fly.
Dee won gold in 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke and silver in 50m fly & 100m breaststroke.
Margie won silver in 100m and 200m freestyle.

We walked along Bondi beach to rock pools, then had a great Thai meal on Saturday night.   Many thanks to Terry our timekeeper and driver.

This was a fantastic meet held at the amazing Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre (the pool was used for the 2000 Olympics and is a fast pool) so put Nationals in your diary for next April!

Frankston Short Course Interclub

Ten Dolphins swimmers attended: Jan Sayers, Sue Harbottle, Rob Knottenbelt, Anna Amiet, Dot DIckey, Clare McGlone, Paula Botha, Robyn Gillespie and Dee Sheffrin.  Unfortunately Chris West could not make it as he was unwell.  In contrast to the previous two years at the Frankston Interclub meet (only Dee swam last year and Clare in 2017) this year having a team of swimmers helped to make a great atmosphere and everyone had a lot of fun.
The meet started with the 200 metre swims and Paula, Robyn, Dee, Clare, Anna, Sue and Jan all entered the 200m freestyle event.  There were Personal Bests (PBs) from Paula, Anna, Clare and Dee.  Dee knocked a whopping 5 seconds off last year's time in the same event.  Paula and Clare also followed up with PBs in the 50m freestyle event.

Dolphin of the Month - March

Shirley Gionfriddo has been awarded Dolphin of the Month for her amazing first time performance at a competition.  She swam in Adelaide at the MSA National Championships recently competing in 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke.  She blitzed her entry times!  Shirley had set herself a goal and dedicated herself to training and obvioulsy the training paid off.  Well done Shirley.

National Championships - Adelaide 2019

Here is one very happy lady. Congratulations (from L-R) to our new National Record Holders.  Margie Moore, Sue Harbottle, Rod Clarke, Bob Patterson.  What a way to finish the meet! The Dolphins 280+ mixed 4x50m Freestyle Relay finished first in a very exciting race for gold between the Malvern Marlins and the Dolphins. The Doncaster Dolphins took the Gold medal finishing with the National record.

Victorian LC Championships

About 20 Dolphins competed at the recent longcourse championships at MSAC.  There were amazing performances from the team with heaps of medals taken home.  A few people used the meet for preparation for World Championships in South Korea later this year and others for competition practice and improving times.

Ironman 70.3 (half ironman event)

Cynthia Mclarty has recently returned from New Zealand after having competed in the Ironman 70.3 at Lake Taupo.  Cynthia has qualified for World Championships in France later this year.

Dolphin of the Month

Peta Harvey for her completion and first place in her age group at the Rottnest Channel swim - 19.7 kms.  Incredible achievement.  Peta has trained hard for months to compete in the Rottnest Channel Swim, a 19.7 km swim challenge from Cottlesloe Beach in Perth to Rottnest Island.  Peta's pace was just under 21 minutes per km for over 6 hours!  Although Peta struggled with a painful left shoulder between 12 km and 15 km into the swim, a few shots of caffeine seemed to do the trick!  Peta came 38 out of 107 females and first in her age group with a swim time of 6:53:29.61 - a true champion.

Dolphin of the Month

Julie Fechner for her amazing dedication to training for the Point Leo open water swim after recovering from back surgery last year.  A great effort by Julie with a podium finish!
